Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes
July 12, 2016 at Coyote Rojo
Attendees: Pat & Jim Connell, Steve & Barb Flynn, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Bill Sharpe, Gary & Jan Tukeva Emrick, Dan Reynolds, and Steve Bensinger & Sue Vartanian
Meeting called to order 7:39pm.
Treasurer Report – Steve B. reported that Vic Chewning says the weather is nice in Maine and that the club bank balance is still $4432.71.
Updates on our Scholarship recipients:
Zachary Stokes was in an accident and his mother moved out-of-state. So Jim doesn't think there is much chance that Zach will continue with his pilot's training.
Noah Richwine is waiting for Jack Moore to fully recover so that his lessons can continue.
Young Eagles:
Jim will take the requisite test in Vero Beach so that he can fly for the Young Eagles program.
The other club members have opted not to participate, and noted that we don't have enough resources to satisfy the Youth Protection Plan Requirements.
A motion was made and seconded to not have a Young Eagles Rally in September this year. Motion passed.
Other events:
The membership likes the idea of having an “airport crawl” or poker run on October 29th since our Fly-in and Bob White's are on the same day. We would like to invite Osborn to be the 3rd airport.
- Triple Tree (Woodruff SC) is September 7-11 (tripletreeaerodrome.com)
- Thomasville (GA) is October 7-9 (thomasvilleflyin.com)
- SERFI (Evergreen AL) is October 21-23 (serfi.org)
Since there didn't seem to be any other events on September 24th, motion made and passed to have a Fly-in breakfast that day.
Other notes:
- Thanks to Gary who moved the windsock at Flying W with Robby's permission. It is now at the center of the runway (within the livestock fence). Also thanks to him, the runway lights seem to be staying on during rainstorms now.
- Barb suggested that our summer meetings could be held at one of the neighborhood homes. She volunteered to host, but won't be home in August.
- Steve B. wondered if the club should require a unanimous vote for expenditures regarding the runway (since not all members of the club live on it). Flying W runway maintenance is Robby's responsibility and is funded by home owners' fees.
- Jim C. informed Hannah's father that we offer a scholarship, but she may not be the minium age yet.
Meeting adjourned 8:17pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13th 7pm at Beef O'Brady's.
Future Fly-Ins (from FlyingFOOLZ.org website with calendar):
- September 24th, 2016 9:00-11:00 AM at Flying W Air Ranch (9FL1)
- October 29th, 2016 9:00-11:00 AM at Flying W Air Ranch (9FL1)
