Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes

February 14, 2017 at Beef O’Brady’s


Attendees: Jim & Pat Connell, Rusty Swartzfager (and family), Karen (Peaches) Jones, Steve & Barb Flynn, Curt Morehouse & Deb Beach, Vic Chewning, Bill & Karen Sharpe, Tom Steinmetz, Dan Reynolds, Noah & Daniel Richwine (and mom), and Steph Bensinger & Sue Vartanian



Meeting called to order 7:28pm.


Last month’s meeting minutes were accepted as written.


Treasurer Report  Vic Chewning 

  • The January Fly-in raised $850 from breakfast sales, $167 from the 50/50 raffle (winnings were donated back), and $28 in other donations. Expenses totaled $318.60, so the net was $726.40.
  • The club bank balance is now $14,918.28. $11,531.43 is designated for scholarships and $3386.85 for operating expenses.
  • Debit cards were issued just in time to buy Fly-in supplies.
  • Reminder: FOOLZ annual club membership dues ($12) and EAA membership numbers should be given to Vic Chewning. Make checks payable to “EAA Chapter 1489”. [There are also memberships for Associate (not an EAA member, not allowed to vote, $12 annual dues), and for Youth (associate member under 18, $5 annual dues).]



Old business:

  • Steve B announced that the FlyingFOOLZ.org website has been updated. However, it still needs the latest versions of the By-laws and of the Scholarship application.
  • Steve B added that he will start purging e-mail addresses from the Yahoo! Group of those who have not renewed club membership for this year.
  • There was another meeting of the Scholarship committee on 1/23/2017. Deb had emailed the minutes to the Board of Directors. However, final recommendations to the Board of Directors requires another committee meeting.



New Business/Announcements

  • Pat C showed off the article in the 2/9/17 Sumter Times that Brenda Locklear wrote about the Ruano Family’s donation to our scholarship fund and our Fly-in.
  • Rusty passed his oral test today. The club congratulates him.
  • There is a Safety Seminar at the Ocala Hilton on SW 36th Ave on 2/23/17 7-9pm. The subject is “Non-Towered Case Studies”. RSVP towww.airsafetyinstitute.org/seminars. The Connells are offering carpool rides.
  • There will be a memorial service for Neal Harris at Gator Field in the afternoon March 25th.
  • Lorene Washburn (Ollie’s widow) says that she will not be hosting the Love’s Landing Fly-in this year.
  • Sun N Fun is April 4th-9th. Please contact Barb if you are interested in volunteering.



Meeting adjourned 7:51pm.



The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14th 7pm at Coyote Rojo.
