Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes

February 10, 2015 Beef O'Brady's

Attendees: Barb & Steve Flynn, Joanne & Dan Springer, Vic Chewning, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Dan Reynolds, Bill & Karen Sharpe, Jack Moore, Lisa Childress, Zach Stokes, Steve Bensinger and Sue Vartanian

Meeting called to order 7:39pm.

Treasurer Report – After a very successful January Fly-in, the club cleared $642.12 and now has $3662.82 in the bank and a $10 headset. There are 12 members for this calendar year so far. Flying FOOLZ memberships are due at the beginning of the year, but members may join or renew at any time.

Chapter Insurance – The club has been buying Event insurance from EAA for $1 million liability for $230/year. The EAA also offers $2 million for $550 or $3 million for $890. After discussion, the membership voted to keep the $1 million coverage that we have now. The club also voted to have the details of the policy reviewed before the next Fly-in at Flying W in May.

Suggestions for next Fly-In – Membership discussed changes and improvements for the next Flying W Fly-in. Membership voted to mark off the fire road with cones so that planes don't park there.

Non-profit status – Question arose about Club's Non-profit status. Not sure which IRS status the club qualifies for. Only matters to donors because it affects their tax returns. The club files a “postcard” because income is less than $50k/year.

Young Eagles/Kids' Day on February 21st The Young Eagles Committee (Joanne, Dan R., Peaches, and Pat & Jim Connell) believe they have a good plan for the event this month. They have filled the registration quota of 24 Young Eagles. The event will open at 8:30am for registration, and start about 9:00. (Hope to end about 1pm.) There will be a safety talk, color-coded armbands, some basic instruction, a paper plane contest (furthest flight), guest speaker, printed certificates, and hotdogs for lunch. [REMINDER: All participating pilots need to have current EAA membership by the 21st.]

Volunteers will be needed to assist with registration, ground school, escorting children to/from aircraft, and helping with other activiites.

Membership voted to make instructor Jack Moore an Honorary FlyingFOOLZ.
