Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes

January 13, 2015 Coyote Rojo

Attendees: Barb Flynn , Jim & Pat Connell, Dudley Cullum, Joanne Springer, Vic Chewning, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Dan Reynolds, Bill & Karen Sharpe, and Sue Vartanian

Flying FOOLZ memberships are due at the beginning of the year, but members may join or renew at any time.

Meeting called to order 7:19pm by Vice President Pat Connell in Steve's absence.

The November Minutes were summarized by secretary Sue Vartanian. They were approved with the following corrections: “September Fly-in” (low attendance) should have been changed to “October Fly-in” (successful).

Treasurer Report – The FOOLZ Club net worth is still over $3000. The Springers donated the cost of the meat served at the December Holiday party at their home, so there were no expenses to the club.

Scholarship – Membership discussed and voted to approve allocating $1000 for a Youth Scholarship to be distributed in these three parts:

  1. 1$300 towards flight instruction when:

    (a) the student (minimum age 16) has been selected for a scholarship (by criteria determined by the club), and
    (b) has become a member of the Flying FOOLZ Chapter 1489. (Membership may be Youth, Associate, or Full Member.)
Payment made to instructor or school when proof of training has been submitted.
  2. 2$400 when student has soloed

Payment made to instructor or school when log book entry or certification by instructor has been submitted.

  1. 1$300 when student has passed written exam
Payment made to instructor or school when copy of certificate has been submitted.

Young Eagles/Kids' Day on February 21st Joanne had one meeting with committee (Peaches, Jim C, Dan R) to outline the events of the day: Safety briefing for parents/children, have mini-ground school (parts of the airplane, weather), construct paper airplanes while waiting, feed hotdogs (after the flights). How many kids should be allowed to pre-register? Which age group(s)? Limit the number of children at first event – is dependent upon the number of pilots available for flying that day. Want to give each child the chance to feel the controls (not ride as a passenger). Younger children are easier to entertain, so perhaps 8-10 years old. Joanne scheduled a second meeting for the committee on 1/19. A request for volunteers will be sent out after the next committee meeting. Volunteers will be needed to assist with registration, ground school, escorting children to/from aircraft, and helping with other activiites.

Breakfast Fly-in January 31st – Barb mentioned that she bought another chafing dish, so the crockpot would not be needed for scrambled eggs.

Upcoming Fly-outs could include: US Light Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring 1/14-1/17, Pigz in Z'hills BBQ & Blues Fest 1/17, Ocala Young Eagle Rally 2/7
