Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes

April 12, 2016 at Beef O'Brady's

Attendees: Jim & Pat Connell, Steve & Barb Flynn, special guest Lohra Miller, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Roger Evans, Vic Chewning, Bill & Karen Sharpe, Gary Emrick & Jan Tukeva, Steve Bensinger & Sue Vartanian, and future member Bob Fry (with a Nesmith Cougar and restoring an Avid Flyer)

After much SunNFun conversation, Meeting called to order 8:00pm.

Previous minutes were read.

Treasurer Report from Vic – Bank account has $4853.85. The last Young Eagles' Day event ended up costing the club only $98 after all of the donations and expenses were submitted. (There was one more expense paid to Peaches since the last report).

Reminder: FOOLZ annual club membership dues ($12) and EAA membership numbers should be given to Vic Chewning (who goes north at the end of April) or to Steve Bensinger. [Make checks payable to EAA Chapter 1489. There are also memberships for Associate (not an EAA member, not allowed to vote, $12 annual dues) and Youth (associate member under 18, Young Eagle/student pilot, $5 annual dues).]

Young Eagles' event – Pat mentioned that a local filmmaker wants to film our next Young Eagles' event because he thinks we have the best kind (with all of the activities besides flying). However, the club has not yet decided whether or not it will have another YE event. (The club needs to make the decision at the July 9th club meeting.)

New Business:

Steve Bensinger purchased ($57.40) and replaced the windsock on Robby's property (Flying W). Motion made and seconded to have the club reimburse Steve. Discussed splitting the cost among the Flying W residents instead. The motion passed.

Barb Flynn wondered if the club would be interested in donating to the Lakeland Aero Club scholarship since our club had no scholarship applicants yet. Discussion points were: keeping the scholarship funds in Sumter County, scholarships are not limited to a certain number per year, the club now has fewer fund-raising Fly-ins per year to replenish our fund, and that February's Young Eagles were too young to apply for the scholarships.

Fly-ins: Saturday, April 16th Umatilla is having breakfast and lunch, Williston is having Pig Roast.

Meeting adjourned 8:20 pm.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 10th 7pm at Coyote Rojo.

(Unofficially have October 29th as next Fly-in date on website.)
