Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes
November 14, 2017 at Coyote Rojo
Attendees: Steve & Barb Flynn, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Deb Beach, Bill & Karen Sharpe, Jim & Pat Connell, Vic Chewning, Roger Evans, Gary Emrick & Jan Tukeva, and Steph Bensinger & Sue Vartanian
Meeting called to order 7:16pm.
Treasurer Report – Vic Chewning
- The club assets are $15,525.93
- Netted $262.33 from October Fly-in
- $390 for breakfast
- $98 for raffle (winner donated his/her half)
- Netted $262.33 from October Fly-in
- $11,829.01 is designated for scholarships
- $5233.90 committed for scholarships this year
- Rusty Swartzfager for an advanced rating scholarship (Instrument) in the amount of $2,748.90 (33% of $8,330) to be applied toward an instrument rating.
- Michael Jenkins for an advanced rating scholarship (Instrument) in the amount of $2,475 (33% of $7,500) to be applied toward an instrument rating.
- Vic will send check to CFII for $1155 on 11/15/2017 as first half of scholarship
- $6694.11 available for future scholarships
- added $98 from 50/50 Raffle at October Fly-in
- $5233.90 committed for scholarships this year
- $3536.92 is for operating expenses
Old business:
- Scholarship Committee – Deb Beach
- Received verfication form from Michael Jenkins to claim first half funds. (See above.)
- Elections:
- Jim Connell spoke for Nominating Committee (which also included Rusty Swartzfager and Bill Sharpe). It submitted existing slate of officers for re-election.
- Membership voted to re-elect the current slate of officers.

- December 9th Connell’s 50th Celebration:
- The Connells have invited the FOOLZ and a crowd of friends and family to join them in their hangar at Connell’s Wahoo on Saturday, December 9th from 1:00pm to 5:00pm for a fully-catered celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
- Trying to clean out hangar. Anyone need box containing Young Eagles forms, signs, etc? Who will take old Hiperlite (that used to be Charlie’s)? Rusty took fuselage to restore it.
New Business/Announcements
- The FOOLZ December meeting is cancelled.
- The FOOLZ April 2018 meeting will be cancelled due to Sun N Fun.
- Motion made and passed to have 2018 meetings start at 6pm (rather than 7pm).
- Upcoming fly-ins:
- 11/18 Lakeland Breakfast
- 11/25 Airport Manatee
- Should we have another FOOLZ fly-in after January?
- Suggested date is March 24th or 31st
- Discussed and voted not to have a March fly-in.
- Former club member Gabriel Ben-Or wrote that his wife Batya died at their home in Mexico on November 1st of a brain aneurism. Our condolences to Gabriel. Many of us remember the wonderful foods that Batya made.
Meeting adjourned 7:42 pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 9th 6pm at Coyote Rojo.
