Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes

January 12, 2016 at Beef O'Brady's (due to schedule conflict at Coyote Rojo)

Attendees: Jim & Pat Connell, Steve & Barb Flynn, (psuedo-nephew) Steve Brox, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Bill & Karen Sharpe, Jan Tukeva & Gary Emrick, Vic Chewning & Lynda Blunt, Dan Reynolds, Dudley & Valerie Cullum, Steve Bensinger & Sue Vartanian

Meeting called to order 7:58pm.

Treasurer Report from Vic – The club bank account has $4407 in the bank, and $19.11 in petty cash. There will be one or two more expenses to pay as a result of the Florida Cub Flyers Meeting December 5th at Connell's Wahoo.

Pat noted that even though the attendance was low due to poor flying conditions, the Cub Flyer's covered all of the food expenses. There was enough extra money to donate $60 to the Refuge shelter in Bushnell, and still put about $120 into the FOOLZ account.

Holiday Party – The party on December 13th was enjoyed by all. It was a progressive party with drinks at Jan Tukeva's house, dinner at Karen Sharpe's house, and dessert at Barb Flynn's house. We enjoyed riding from house-to-house in decorated golf carts and the FOOLZ Area Rapid Transit. Thanks to all who contributed food and drink.

Young Eagles event February 20th10am-3pm. The Young Eagle's Committee (Peaches, Jim & Pat C, and Dan Reynolds) met today to discuss details, arranging for pilots, filing paperwork, advertising, and delegating whatever else needs to be done. Steve B will file for the insurance from the EAA. Peaches asked if it was OK to reserve February 27thth as a Rain Date. The membership (including the Flynns) agreed. Steve B noted that there were no other Fly-ins on the 27. The committee plans to advertise the event in newspapers and on the radio. Registration forms will be due by February 12th. Although, they do not plan to contact the ROTC, it was suggested that a STEM teacher or Zachary Stokes (a senior at South Sumter High School) might help recruit Young Eagles.

Scholarship applications – We did not get any applications for the scholarship this year. (The application is posted on the FlyingFOOLZ.orgwebsite. Click link to FOOLZ Newz.) Peaches will include a copy of the application with each Young Eagles packet.

Fly-ins and other events – Our Fly-in breakfast will be January 30th 9-11am. (Dudley noted that he won't be able to participate that day.) Palatka is having an Open House all day. The Recreational Aviation Foundation is having camp-out at Melrose that weekend.

Meeting adjourned 8:03 pm.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th 7pm at Beef O'Brady's
