Flying FOOLZ Meeting Minutes
October 13, 2015 Beef O'Brady's
Attendees: Jim & Pat Connell, Steve & Barb Flynn, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Bill & Karen Sharpe, Gary Emrick & Jan Tukeva, Steve Bensinger & Sue Vartanian
Meeting called to order 7:51pm.
The previous meeting minutes were accepted as written.
Treasurer Report – The club bank account has $4639.83. Expenses for Young Eagles' Day will total roughly $400. Not all receipts have been submitted yet.
Nominating Committee for Club Officers – The nominating committee, Karen (Peaches) Jones, Dan Reynolds and Jim Connell, canvassed the membership and presented the list of nominees:
- President Steve Bensinger
- Vice President Pat Connell
- Secretary Sue Vartanian
- Treasurer Vic Chewning, Steve Bensinger
- Directors (3): Steve Flynn, Barb Flynn, Bill Sharpe
Each officer is elected for a 2-year term. All club officers and 3 directors are up for election this year. Elections will be at the November meeting.
Scholarship applications – We need a committee to review the applications and to choose the scholar(s). (The application has been posted on the FlyingFOOLZ.org website. Click link to FOOLZ Newz.)
Young Eagles event September 26th – Membership discussed the Young Eagles event which went well. Considered changing the date. Motion made and passed to keep the event in late September and change only the registration process to include newspaper advertising if there not enough children registered a week before the event deadline. Other thoughts and suggestions included: Have young pilot (scholarship student) at the Pre-flight demonstration; make sure that each pilot has a supply of air-sick bags; don't try to assign each child to a specific pilot; include the parent in the post-flight debriefing as the pilot signs the logbook. Also considered having a second Young Eagles event, probably on February 20th. Will discuss at next meeting.
ADS-B Receiver – Steve Bensinger showed off his latest gadget: an ADS-B receiver which was made by putting together parts and software from the internet for less than $100. (The original article and links were on an EAA website. I found it on reddit.com while learning how to spell ADS-B.)
Other Fly-ins: SERFI October 23rd in Evergreen AL, Klinger 50th Anniversary Lunch at Osborne Airport October 31st, Bob White Airport lunch October 31st.
Florida Cub Flyers Meeting – Reminder that the FOOLZ will help serve lunch at Connell's Wahoo to the Cub Flyers on December 5th. The group will also be collecting Toys for Tots.
Lunch proceeds go to the FOOLZ club.
Meeting adjourned 8:50 pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th 7pm at Coyote Rojo.
